The Garrison at Hong Kong consiste of one
British Battalion and one Indian Battalion together
with seven Batteries and other local defence units.
There are also the Hong Kong Volunteers (numbering
471) which have been mobilised.
Towards the end of June two Platoons of
the Indian Regiment were sent to Sha-meen. It is
not known in this Department whether any further troops have been sent there.

In a memorandum dated 25th June the Chiefs of Staff Sub-Committee of the Comilla Impesialisasi. Defente reported that "it is by no means improble that a request may be received before long from Hong Kong for a reinforcement of the Garrison", and they recommended that our military forces in the Far East should be increased by sending an additional

British and an/Indian Battalion to Hong Kong, so as to provide a small reinforcement in case of emergency, "such as that with which we may any day be confronted".
Recent information as to the Military activity in the vicinty of Whampoa and Boccatigris Fort (where a large Soviet vessel carrying a quantity of small arms and troops appears to have landed certain Russians) points to the possibility of the interruption of communication between Hong Kong
and Canton.
